ZK74, Spain, Ferdinand VII, Bronze Box Medal 1820 (Ø71mm, 65.9g) by Henrionnet, Constitution, Rare!

The box used to contain double-sided roundels printed with the titles and articles of the Constitution (BDM VII, p.439).

On 19 March 1812, during the Spanish War of Independence (1808-1814), the Cortes of Cádiz promulgated the Constitution of the Spanish Monarchy. The constitution had ten titles and 384 articles and was of a markedly liberal character. On his return to the monarchy, Ferdinand abolished the constitution and restored absolute monarchical power which lasted through to his death in 1833. However, this box medal commemorates the three-year interregnum of 1820 to 1823, when the constitution of Cádiz was re-established as the fundamental law of the state. Henrionnet also produced a box medal of Louis Antoine de Angôuleme in 1823
